Working cycle principle of scroll air compressor

A scroll compressor (also called a vortex compressor) is a device that uses vortex motion to compress gas. Its working principle is to achieve gas suction, compression and discharge through two intermeshing scroll plates (a fixed plate and a moving plate). The following is the basic principle of the scroll compressor working cycle:

1.Inhalation process: When the moving disc is driven by the eccentric shaft and rotates around the fixed disc, it forms a series of crescent-shaped compression chambers between the two. As the moving disc rotates, the volume of these chambers gradually increases, thereby sucking in gas at the suction port.

2.Compression process: As the moving disk continues to rotate, these crescent-shaped cavities gradually move toward the center of the fixed disk and gradually reduce in volume. In this process, the gas in the cavity is compressed and the pressure increases.

3.Exhaust process: When the compression chamber moves to the vicinity of the exhaust port, the high-pressure gas in the chamber is discharged from the compressor, completing a working cycle.

The characteristics of scroll air compressors include simple structure, small size, light weight, low noise, low vibration, high efficiency and high reliability. Since they have few moving parts, maintenance requirements are relatively low. In addition, scroll air compressors can achieve continuous and smooth gas output without pulses or vibrations, which makes them very popular in applications that require quiet operation and precise pressure control.

Scroll air compressors are widely used in air conditioning, refrigeration, general gas compression, automotive engine superchargers and vacuum pumps, etc. They can replace traditional medium and small reciprocating compressors in a wide range and provide efficient and reliable compression services.
